Before I say anything here, I think it imperative that I state unequivocally that Usana as a company has some excellent nutritional products. The quality is definitely there. They have some fine and capable management overseeing things. Dr. Myron Wentz, who founded Usana is a stand up guy in every respect! They have good training for the field, provide leadership training, classy marketing materials and much more.
The second point I want to clarify and this is extremely important that you grasp this, especially if you are a current Usana distributor! I did not quit Usana after some half hearted, failed attempt to succeed there! And I refuse to be written off as someone who "just didn't try hard enough" or as some less than professional people within the ranks there might say "loser". Quite the opposite in fact. But there are some who find it easy to just write someone like me off as a "quitter". Well, I made some excellent bonus checks in Usana. My problem was sleeping at night knowing there was something seriously wrong because after about 1997 or so, it became increasingly apparent that many, many good and hard working people were joining Usana and going absolutely nowhere! If you are a Usana distributor reading this now I ask you a question. Is that you? Have you been following the lead of your upline, the training system and been doing it for a long time now with seemingly little or no results? Feel like you are banging your head against a wall? Making little or no progress? Have you been thinking, "I must be doing something wrong here!" or maybe "I must not be cut out for network marketing (since I'm doing all the stuff I'm suppose to be doing and yet I'm going nowhere fast here!" ) ... sound familiar? Then read on my friend.
(Several months ago a former Usana leader, an outspoken Usana booster active on the various message boards and involved in Usana for probably 6 years now and one who took me to task on a number of occasions contacted me. This person basically apologized for the harsh criticisms of the past and confessed that in all that time they had spent more money trying to build a successful Usana distributorship than they made. They were in a negative cash flow after all that time! Loved the products and would probably continue to take them but was exiting the Usana business. And this person wasn't the first one to come to me like that ... nor the last one either. In fact I had two such calls that very same week. Quitters? Losers?)
Frankly, I had a generally good experience with Usana. I met some of the finest human beings one could want to spend time with. In fact the hardest thing about my decision to leave was breaking ranks with so many good friends there! ;-( But you know what? I didn't join Usana to make a bunch of new friends and I didn't join to get "the finest nutritional products in the world". I already had a lot of good friends in my life. I was already taking nutritionals from another company that frankly were quite good. Listen to me here! Finding good products even above average products is not hard to do! And within the network marketing industry there are many companies that offer some really excellent products that make a difference in people's lives!
I think it's important here to point out that so often companies shift from opportunity when they are first getting going to products later on when things begin to cool off for them. (For those of you who were not around Usana pre momentum circa 1994 or so, it was ALL about the money! All about the "new" binary compensation plan and ALL about the famous, already wealthy and successful people (Denis Waitley, Brain Tracy and Robert Allen), who got on board because this was going to be BIG! Big as in BIG MONEY!) They begin to promote the mantra, "We have the BEST nutritional products in the (whole wide <grin>) world!". That's such a bunch of nonsense! I mean, Says WHO???? GET REAL!!! Listen to me here!
I think it's wonderful and in fact imperative that you have a strong belief in your products, however I think it's totally absurd if not out and out stupid to go around touting that mantra. Besides, you'll just sound like a million other distributors in a 100 other companies ... all saying the same thing! Let me ask you something. Now how can you be right and they are all wrong? And why do you think they are saying it? I'll tell you why. For the same reason you are. Because they went to a convention with their company just like you did with yours and watched 50 - 100 people get up and parade across the stage sharing their testimony about how the products changed their lives. And perhaps because they like you had a life changing experience on the products. So of course they must have the best products in the world!
So now you tell me. Who has the best products in the "whole (wide) ;-) world"?
Some of you have come here to investigate my business opportunity. Some of you are old friends, people who know me and are trying to determine what happened and why did I exit a successful Usana distributorship? Some of you may in fact be former active Usana distributors and you are looking for a new opportunity, one you can run with and really have a genuine opportunity to succeed and not take 4 or 5 years before you begin to see a decent return on your investment of time and money. Heck, you might like to add an extra $400.00 - $500.00 a month ... and not have to take 4 or 5 years to get there! (How about $4 - $5,000 a month?)
Okay so what did happen? Why did I leave active participation as a Usana Business Builder? The answer is simple. Money. I left because I came to realize there was an inherent flaw built in to the Usana opportunity that prevented the average part timer from ever realizing any true success. And that meant I was never going to realize my own goals and dreams.
You see I
joined Usana for one reason and one reason only ... to make a large bonus check so that I
could do and have the things that that income would provide for me and my family.
And while I hit an income there of approximately $70,000+ from a mostly part time
effort, the hundreds of people in my downline organization about 1,200 or so, those folks
never had anything like that in terms of success. In fact that level of success was
limited to a very small handful of people. And for the most part, they were people
who got in right before or sometime during the momentum phase years of 1994 -1996, maybe
as late as 1997. Pretty much anyone who joined Usana after that time frame and was
doing the business on a part time basis, say 10 - 15 hours a week, those distributors never
had much of a chance. And if you are a Usana distributor in that category, you
aren't succeeding either ... are you? Of course not. And what makes you think
anything is really going to change for you?
Right now if you peel away the
growth the company has realized from it's venture into Korea and Hong Kong and you were to
be able to get an insiders look at the books and see how most of the reported USA/North
American growth is actually growth from top North American distributors with downlines in
those two regions, you'd realize that not much is really happening stateside or in Canada.
In fact it's more likely a negative sum game in North America. (Just look at the
loss of distributor base in Canada alone!)
Soon the company will be venturing into Mexico. Do you live there? Are you ready to re locate there (ahead of the top income earners who have parked themselves in Hong Kong and Korea and grew the large downlines there)? How about Spanish? Do you speak fluent Spanish? If the answer is "No" to those questions, then you might as well forget about any of that affecting your business growth.
By the way, if you take away the growth created when the company went into Korea and Hong Kong you'll be left with the dismal numbers the company was having to present for the 2 - 3 years prior to entering those new markets. So what does that tell you about the old markets ... the ones you are dealing with where you live? It should tell you things will be the same as before. None of that or the recent over inflated stock values will do squat for you and your dreams ... zip, zilch, nada, nothing!
Isn't it time for you to wake up and do something about it before your spirit is crushed due to a lack of success and little or nothing to show for your efforts after all this time? Don't be beaten down and DO NOT assume you must not be cut out for this business and industry! Instead DO SOMETHING!
